Avalon College's School Preparation Course is a comprehensive program which prepares students for entry into upper primary and secondary schools. This program focuses on the development of English language skills to a high level. However, simply having strong reading, writing, speaking, listening and grammar skills is not enough for a student to be successful at an Australian school. For this reason our School Preparation Course is a comprehensive program combining experiences from within and outside the classroom.
For example, while students are developing their English language skills in classes they are also taught how to think and learn in the way that Australian students are taught to think and learn. We develop skills such as critical and analytical thinking and teach students how to form an opinion and argue a point of view. We also help students to become independent learners who take responsibility for their learning.
Outside the classroom there are many other aspects of our School Preparation Course which you will read about on this website, such as our afterschool program, the weekend program and our transition program. All parts of this course are designed to prepare students for what they will experience when they start at an Australian school so that their transition can be as easy and as successful as possible.
